Hi there! I’m Jess from Sallie Tomato and Welcome to our 30 Day, Learn to Sew Challenge! I’m so excited to guide you through this and that you’ve taken an interest in sewing!
We’re starting from scratch. This series is designed for the novice sewist, so if you’ve never touched a sewing machine or cut into fabric, this is for you! However, if you’ve been sewing for a while, you can certainly make the projects a part of this series and join in on the fun! More experienced sewists may like to jump ahead to Day 14 and start with the projects! We’ll be creating SIX beginner-friendly projects!
So, if you look at your calendar for the next 30 days, I challenge you to block off only 15 minutes each day to learn how to sew. We’ve created this skill-building series so you’ll learn about the basics and work up to some of your first projects!
Before we get started, I have some tips to share with you. I want you to enjoy this challenge and set you up for success while learning about your new hobby!
First create a space sewing. Set up a table, desk, or even a temporary space that’s easy to set up and store away. You’ll need enough room for a sewing machine and a work area for cutting, ironing, and laying out pieces of your project. It doesn't have to be big, but it does need to be easy for you to get up and move between the machine and the work area.
My next tip is to tell someone that you’re starting this 30 day challenge! It helps to have an accountability partner who will support you and maybe even check in on you to see how the challenge is going! Or, perhaps they’ll join you in this 30 day challenge!
And last, I want you to physically write a reminder to yourself to show up for this challenge! We’ve created a free printable to help you check in each day.
Otherwise, write it down on your personal calendar, put a post-it note on your fridge or mirror, create an appointment reminder on your phone, or even start a journal to track your progress. Physically writing down your goals will help bring them from just a thought in your head, to reality. It’s so simple to do but it will make you feel accountable and encouraged to track your progress overtime. And I want you to notice what it feels like when you keep that appointment with yourself. I promise that when you take the time for yourself and accomplish a goal, you are going to feel so much joy!
So if you’re up to the challenge, I hope you’ll start with those three tips and join me in this series to learn how to sew!
