WATCH OUT! The spookiest time of the year is just around corner! We've "brewed" TEN festive fall projects, inspired by iconic Halloween colors and mythical creatures! We've "taken" classic Sallie Tomato patterns and added adorable applique designs and seasonal cork fabrics for a creepy, holiday twist!

Here's what you'll need for these projects:
MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES
- Decide which project below you want to make, and reference the pattern for specific materials and supplies.
- For the applique, we recommend cork fabric, faux leather, or any other fabric that doesn't fray. You'll need a few scraps of black and/or white fabric.
- Helpful Notions for the applique include: scissors, polyester thread (Sulky Poly Deco), sewing clips (Clover Wonder Clips), chalk or removable pen, basting spray (Sulky KK2000), basting tape, stiletto, zipper foot, Teflon foot
BASIC APPLIQUE INSTRUCTIONS
It's easy to applique with cork fabric or faux leather!
- Print, then cut out your applique templates.
- Position template against the right side of your fabric. Trace around outer edge of each template with chalk or a removeable pen.
- Apply basting spray or double sided basting tape to the wrong side of your cut out applique piece(s). Do not pin cork fabric or faux leather because pins will leave a permanent hole.
- With right sides up, position applique as desired on your project.
- We recommend using polyester thread when sewing cork fabric or faux leather. Sulky Poly Deco Thread is a great choice because it's durable and has a soft sheen for a professional touch. Also, use a size 100 Microtex or Topstitch needle for embroidering cork fabric.
- Topstitch applique in place with your desired stitch style. A simple topstitch would be a straight stitch 1/16"-1/8" from each edge.

CANDY CORN BACK TO BASICS TOTE

We're so "corny" that we had to make a candy corn tote! Perfect for trick-or-treating, and even toting around all season long! To create this project, we used our Back to Basics Tote pattern and a "sweet" cork "candy" color pallet.
For this project, you'll need to make the following adjustments to the pattern:

Instead of cutting the Front and Back as a whole piece, cut the following:
- Terracotta (orange) (2) 8" by 15-1/2" Top Bands
- Platinum (white) (2) 4-1/2" by 15-1/2" Middle Bands
- Mustard (yellow) (2) 4-1/2" by 15-1/2" Bottom Bands
- Piece strips together using 3/8" seam allowances and topstitch with 1/4" allowance.
- Do not cut the Front Exterior Pocket
- From Terracotta (orange) cut the Back Interior Pocket
- From the Platinum (white) cut the Shoulder Straps and Optional Snap Cover
SOPHIE SKULL BAG

The flap on our Sophie cell pouch pattern was "screaming" to be adorned with skull applique! Our version is festive, yet neutral enough to be used throughout the fall season, or for other celebrations such as the Day of the Dead and All Souls' Day.
For this project, you'll need to make the following adjustments to the pattern:
- Attach eye and nose appliques after Step 5 in Shape Main Panel, Facing, and Pocket. Use Flap Pattern for placement.
- Attach teeth appliques after Step 5 in Shape Main Panel, Facing, and Pocket. Position them 2-1/4" down from shaped edge.

This wallet is so "franken" cute! We love how this freaky version of our Lucky $2 Wallet Pattern "stitched" up! The cork color choices and applique has been inspired by Frankenstein! Adults and kids alike will love using this wallet.
For this project, you'll need to attach the appliques on Piece A Outside Main, with the top straight edge of the Hair Applique just in from the center as shown.

"Harvested" fresh from our pattern patch, we bring you our Circle Bag pattern featuring a pumpkin color pallet and applique. The applique features three eye options so you can carve your cork fabric to be naughty or nice.
For this project, you'll need to attach the appliques on one Main Panel before beginning construction of the project. The Main Panel and Gusset pieces will be cut from Pumpkin Spice Cork. The Moss Green Cork will be used for the Handle, Strap, and Tassel.

Trick or Treat, get out your embroidery "FEET!" ...If you desire, you can add embroidery to this dark and spooky version of our Back to Basics Tote pattern! Simply center and embroider your chosen design on the Front Pocket before you begin construction. Watch our tutorial video for tips on embroidering cork fabric! Use any embroidery design that has a maximum size of 7" high and 12" wide. We recommend a design that isn't very dense when embroidering on cork fabric or faux leather for the best results.
