Bag Making Techniques

Bag Making Techniques

Sallie Tomato has a new video series available on our YouTube Channel! In an effort to help you see success in your projects, we have made short tutorials on some common bag components. These are great if you need a little help on certain parts of an existing bag pattern or if you want to try to incorporate different features into a bag. If some of our tutorials aren't quite your pace, these are great references for you, so be sure to save the videos to look back on in the future. We hope you enjoy these tutorials!

The first tutorial in this series features Jess demonstrating How to Make a Faux Leather Crossbody Strap. All you will need to complete this project is some faux leather fabric (cork works too!) available here, and the necessary hardware available here.

In the next tutorial of this series, Jess will demonstrate How to Install Purse Feet. To complete this project you will need purse feet hardware available in both dome and bucket. To make it even easier we recommend this stiletto tool. Purse feet help prevent the bottom of your bag from getting dirty. They also add stability to the bottom of your bag. They are great for purses, backpacks, and handbags...and even our own Backyard Caddy!

The next tutorial in this series is such good one! Who doesn't love a bag with a zipper on top to secure everything? Learn How to Attach a Zipper to the Top of a Bag in this short video. This tutorial uses our ever popular zippers available here.

On to the next one! So much to learn and so little time, so we're keeping these short and sweet. Join Jess of Sallie Tomato in this quick and easy tutorial demonstrating How to Finish the Raw End of Zipper Tape. All you will need to complete this project is a piece of coordinating fabric and a zipper available here. If you prefer, we do offer zipper cord ends available on our website. We have a video tutorial for those aswell! Check it out on our YouTube Channel!

The next video in this series will show you how to Assemble an Interior Zipper Pocket. Again, having a zipper enclosure is so nice to keep things from falling out! To complete this project you will need zippers available here.

Next, Jess will demonstrate how to use Grommet Strap Connectors. This hardware has been exclusively designed by Sallie Tomato! Save time and stop making fussy strap connectors by using these extremely easy-to-add metal strap connectors. These connectors are very strong and add a high-end finish to your bag!

Last but not least, Jess shows you How to Assemble and Interior Slip Pocket. These are great for keeping your bags organized and having easily accessible spots for those commonly used items- your phone, keys, wallet, or chapstick!

We hope you enjoyed this series! These tutorials aim to provide valuable tips to help completing your bags just a bit easier! Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel for tutorials, tips, and more!
