Sewing with Cork

A couple of years ago I bought a yard of cork "fabric" from Sallie Tomato at a sewing expo. Since I've looked at it admiringly but had no idea what to do with it or how to work with it. In May, I admired and bought a cork fanny pack in Lisbon, using it during the remainder of the trip and LOVED it. When I got home I vowed to make my sister a fanny pack using the cork I'd previously purchased and it turned out great. The how-to sew with cork download made it easy to assemble my project, detailing needle, thread and other needs such as stitch length, sewing foot, etc. I made my own pattern, enlarged to accommodate her large phone, using the pack purchased in Lisbon. My sister's pack turned out great!

Hello- Thank you so much for sharing your cork journey! We love hearing how your trip to Lisbon inspired you to revisit that beautiful cork fabric from the expo. It’s amazing how travel can spark new creative ideas—and we’re sure your sister will absolutely love the handmade fanny pack!

We’d be thrilled if you joined our Sallie Tomato Patterns and Hardware Facebook Group to share your finished project and connect with other makers exploring cork and more. Your story is such an inspiration!

Warmly, The Sallie Tomato Team
