Gum Tragacanth is used as a base coat. It provides a layer between your project and the color you have chosen, which allows for the color to go on smoother and not have to be absorbed into the project fibers.
*If unopened, Edge Kote is good for 3 years depending on how it is stored. Possibly longer under ideal conditions (i.e. room temp, no temperature fluctuation, etc)
Opened it varies much more. It could be 3 months to a year depending on how it is used, how it is stored, how long the product is left unsealed while using, head space, and cleanliness of the workspace.*
