Air Mesh is a three-dimensional fabric which is often used on projects such as backpacks, travel bags, athletic items, outdoor accessories, and more. This material is also referred to as spacer mesh or 3D mesh fabric.

It is a lightweight, breathable, and flexible fabric that has a mesh-like structure with small, evenly spaced holes or perforations, and essentially a layer of foam between the mesh.

The fabric's design allows air to flow through it, which can help wick away moisture, reduce heat buildup, and enhance overall comfort. This makes it suitable for applications where moisture management and temperature control are important.

  • Size: 54” wide by 1/2 yard or 1 yard length. There are NO continuous cuts when ordering more than a quantity of one.
  • Fiber Content: 100% polyester
  • Recommended Needle: A 80/12 ballpoint or universal needle is recommended, with a shorter stitch length such as 2mm or 2.5mm.
  • Recommended Thread: 40 wt polyester thread
  • Recommended Presser Foot: standard foot 
  • Ironing: Use a medium to high setting.

Air Mesh

I used air mesh by itself for the Casablanca bottle holder. It is very easy to cut and sew (but clean the air mesh dust off your rotary cutter before you cut other fabric ....)
Everything came out great, although I had to use white webbing since navy was out of stock and I had to hurry to finish for a gift.
I want to try air mesh for exterior pockets on a backpack next.
