My Heart Belongs to my Farmer Fabric Tour

Welcome to Poppie Cotton's My Heart Belongs to my Farmer Fabric Tour! This tour is a celebration of Poppie Cotton's new fabric collection debut. Poppie Cotton has invited makers from across the country to create an inspiring project made with their new fabric line. We are honored to be a small part of this incredible fabric tour!

Kate from our team was inspired by these fabrics to make a set of Sterling Coasters and a coordinating Billie Basket. The dainty designs on this fabric will cheer up any space in your home. The prints are easily mixed and matched. Create quick and easy gifts with these patterns by combining fabric and cork, here’s how:

Coasters (LST187 Sterling)

A Sterling coaster set will complete any dinner party table-scape or bar cart in sleek style. Showcase your favorite textured or printed fabrics, corks, and leathers, framed by dramatic metal corners. Embellish the front of each coaster with optional embroidery or applique, for a unique look. This fat quarter-friendly or scrap-friendly project makes the perfect gift, and will elevate the look of any space.

Supplies:

  • Charm squares (or quilt cotton cut following Sterling pattern) for Piece A
  • Fashion Fuse (Bosal #400) fusible woven interfacing cut the same as above for Piece A
  • Cork fabric cut for Piece B
  • Heavy Stabilizer cut for Piece C

Adapted Instructions to Prepare Coaster Tops:

  1. Fuse interfacing Piece A to WS of cotton Piece A.

Adapted Instructions to Assemble Coasters

  1. Position Piece C, centered, over the interfacing side of Piece A. Hold in place with basting tape or spray.
  2. Fold and press Piece A corners on a diagonal over the stabilizer. The corner point of the stabilizer should be touching the inside of the fold. Secure with small pieces of basting tape.
  3. Press the Piece A edges over to the WS, covering the stabilizer edges with an iron. Add a wide piece of basting tape along the center of each raw edge of the fabric. This will hold the fabric edge in place and secure Piece B in step 4 of the pattern.
  4. Follow steps 4 and 5, topstitching 1/4” from all four edges of the coaster.

Complete the coaster set with metal corners, following the Sterling pattern.

Basket (LST178 Billie)

Organize all of your items in style with the easy-to-sew basket pattern, Billie! This pattern is available in 3 sizes and is perfect for sewing with cork or faux leather! This pattern is great for personal use or to gift. Choose your colors and prints and enjoy matching that seasonal décor!

Supplies:

  • One fat quarter-cut one 11” by 11” square for Main Piece A
  • One 10” by 10” square of Dura Fuse (Bosal #334) or Single-Sided Fusible Batting (Bosal #326LF)
  • One 10” by 10” square of cork for Contrast Piece A

Prepare cotton fabric:

  1. Center and fuse interfacing to WS of Main Piece A.
  2. Fold and press Piece A corners on a diagonal over the stabilizer. The corner point of the stabilizer or batting should be touching the inside of the fold. Secure with small pieces of basting tape.
  3. Press the Piece A edges over to the WS, covering the stabilizer edges with an iron. Optional: add a wide piece of basting tape along the center of each raw edge of the fabric. This will hold the fabric edge in place and secure Piece B in step 5 of the pattern. Otherwise, hold layers in place with sewing clips.
  1. Follow the pattern for marking stitching lines and assembling the base.
  2. For step 2 under Shape Basket, measure 1-1/2” from the center edge. The dart length ends 1/2” from the interior topstitching.
  3. Try using all small rivets for steps 5 and 6, as the interfaced fabric is lighter weight than cork or faux leather fabrics.

Skip the handle for ease of gift wrapping and using the coasters. Stack the coasters inside the basket to keep them all in one place while not in use.

Be sure to check out tomorrow's post for another inspiring project, and look back at the previous posts if you missed out on the other amazing My Heart Belongs to My Farmer Projects!

Enjoy! Thank you so much Poppie Cotton for asking us to participate!
