DIY Knotted Headband Tutorial

DIY Knotted Headband Tutorial

Hey there! I’m Jess from Sallie Tomato. Today, we’re getting crafty! We are going to make a simple and stylish no-sew or low-sew hair accessory!

The knotted headband is everywhere right now and we are excited to show you how to make your own! This project has a comfortable design and concealed raw edges.

You can use this pattern on different headband sizes, and use nearly any fabric, to truly make a knotted headband that fits your style - or perhaps even an entire collection of knotted headbands to coordinate with any outfit or any occasion!

This project is suitable for lite faux leather, faux fur, quilt cotton, canvas, flannel, knit, sequins, velveteen, denim or linen. This is also a great pattern to incorporate scraps or upcycled fabrics. Choose to use a headband that is between 1” wide and 2” wide.

This project includes a no-sew option as well as a low-sew option, but either way, you’ll need some hot glue and your hot glue gun to create this accessory.

  • Main Fabric - headband wrap and knot
    • For 1" to 1-1/2" (2.5cm by 3.8cm) wide headband: 4" by 25" piece (12.7cm by 63.5cm)
    • For larger than 1-1/2" to 2" (3.8cm by 5cm) wide headband: 1/3 yard (0.3m)
  • Headband - choose preferred width between sizes below
    • 1" to 2" wide (2.5cm to 5cm piece)
  • Notions

So, once you decide on your fabrics, gather your pattern and supplies, cut out your pieces according to the pattern, and let’s begin!
