Sew Kraft-Tex Bags Blog Tour

Sew Kraft-Tex Bags Blog Tour

welcome to day 3 of the sew kraft-tex bags blog tour!

This tour is a celebration of Betsy La Honta and Gailen Runge's new book debut with C&T Publishing, Sew kraft-tex Bags. The talented authors have invited makers from across the country to create their own, inspiring version of one of the projects from the book.

Inside the book, you'll find seventeen thoughtfully picked projects, that have been rigorously tested by Betsy and Gailen to work with kraft-tex. Each project has the complete original instructions (for the fabric-only version) along with all the adjustments you need to create the kraft-tex version. There are also helpful hints for working with kraft-tex throughout each project.

I decided to make the kraft-tex version of the Delilah Crossbody Bag. I chose to make the body of the bag out of kraft-tex because it would add structure to the part of the bag that would hold the most weight. This was my first time sewing with the pre-washed kraft-tex, and I must say that I'm hooked! It was so easy to open the package and start working with the fabric right away. The pre-washed kraft-tex is soft and I love how it looks like a quality leather.

For the flap, I followed the original pattern instructions to make the patchwork version. I used one of my favorite fabric collections, Balboa by Robert Kaufman.  Balboa is an essex linen collection, which pairs beautifully with the texture of the kraft-tex.

For the straps, I decided to incorporate some denim blue cork fabric. To make the straps, I simply cut a 2" piece of cork by the length I wanted, folded it in half with wrong sides together matching the raw edges, and then, topstitched each length side. Since cork fabric doesn't fray, I was able to leave one side of the strap raw edge. This would be the same if you wanted to use kraft-tex for the strap!

Lastly, this bag wouldn't have been complete without the hardware and zipper! I used our 1" hardware in gunmetal and Zippers by the Yard in Beige with Gunmetal.
