Faux Leather Tour! Featuring New Textures: Crocodile, Alligator, & Ostrich!

9 days of inspiration!

We reached out to inspired minds all across the globe to see what they can create with our New Collection of Faux Leather including: Crocodile, Alligator, and Ostrich. These women made some amazing pojects that we can't wait for you to see!

Here's a breakdown of all 9 Days to get your creativity flowing!

Day 1!

Meet Beth from Sew Country!

"Hi! I am Beth from Sew Country and sewing is my therapy! I sew daily and have been sewing bags for over 10 years. I teach classes locally, have a YouTube channel for sewing tutorials and also do pattern testing for many designers. My goal is to help others use sewing as their therapy by breaking down patterns into manageable steps so we can all enjoy sewing together. Thank you to Sallie Tomato for allowing me to be a part of their tour and for their constant inspiration!"

Beth made this amazing bag using our Moss Green Alligator Faux Leather paired with Sallie Tomato hardware! This bag was also created using our Debby pattern! We love the way the deep green color in the leather really makes the gold hardware POP! She even made a YouTube video on how she did it! You can find it at the link below:

Day 2!

Meet Taribba!

Taribba do Nascimento is a St. Lucian designer, loving mother, nagging wife and lover of all things creative. She fell in love with the art of leathercraft while living in Ethiopia. She has since trained in Florence, Italy where she refined her skills while attempting to taste every flavor of gelato the city had to offer.

Taribba used our Powder Blush Pink Crocodile Faux Leather to create this elegant and classy bag! We love how the pink fabric and rose gold hardware to create that effortless look and can add a pop of color to any outfit!

Day 3!

Meet Kat from Sew Original!

"Hey there!

I'm Kat, and I am the sole creative mind/maker behind Sew Original!

I have always been a crafter and have particularly enjoyed cross stitching since I was about 10 years old. As an avid needlecrafter, sewing came as a natural progression - but not until years later! I taught myself to sew in 2016, beginning with quilts but soon moving on to small bags and pouches. Eventually, I found my niche making statement handbags and accessories. I am inspired by all things bright and quirky, and firmly believe that life is too short for boring fashion."

Kat created this perfect every day crossbody bag using our Black Ostrich Faux Leather! This fabric creates a great staple piece with still adding a little flavor with its texture! Kat said, " It sewed on my machine-like butter, and I didn't even have to bust out the Teflon foot." about the fabric. This bag can take you from a day at the office to a night on the town without the extra work of switching bags.

Day 4!

On day four we introduced Reen with Embroidery Garden!

"I’m Reen Wilcoxson, founder of Embroidery Garden. I’ve had my business, specializing in ‘in the hoop’ machine embroidery designs for over 20 years. As an independent educator, I traveled and taught my designs across the country at various stores and venues. I've written several blogs and articles for major magazines and authored a project book for a large sewing machine corporation. I’ve appeared on It’s Sew Easy TV on PBS demonstrating some of my designs. Sallie Tomato and I have collaborated on several projects over the years. Recently, I invented ‘Hoop N Press Pads’ to aid in constructing 'in the hoop' designs. They’re sold on my website and at several other online and local retail shops."

Using Sallie Tomato's Powder Blush Pink Crocodile Faux Leather to make this stunning bag! We love working with Reen and seeing what she creates using our material! This bag is simply chic with the texture and gold hardware making it perfect for your Spring and Summer wardrobe!

Day 5!

This is Catherine!

“I am a 17-year-old full time student athlete that discovered my love of sewing during the pandemic. I was in a sewing club for two years and learned the basics from a few very kind and talented teachers. I started off by sewing masks in my basement with my dad in 2020 and grew my interest from there! I taught myself how to make everything in my shop and I'm still learning new things every day. I also enjoy quilting and hope to add some quilts to my shop in the future.”

Catherine shows us how to use our Faux Leather in Ecru Ostrich multiple ways with our Carry Along Paper Pattern! With its neutral tone along with its subtle detailing, this fabric can take any outfit day to night! So much talent at such a young age!

Day 6!

Introducing Linds of Linds Handmade!

"Hello there! My name is Lindsay, but my friends call me Linds. I’m the creator and mastermind behind the patterns you see here. I found my love of sewing in high school and have been making everything from baby gift items to wallets and handbags ever since! Now I want to share my love and passion for making pretty things with YOU! None of this would be possible without the invaluable help and guidance from my husband Aaron (or “Babe” as I like to call him 😉) and twin sister Steph. Together we strive to bring you modern sewing patterns with easy step by step instructions, oodles of colored pictures, and even video tutorials! We hope you stick around and feel inspired to make something pretty too! High fives, - Linds"

If you are the type of person who is hesitant of using or wearing color, this one is for you! Linds made not one, but TWO projects using our Crimson Red Crocodile Faux Leather! Each piece is created from her patterns: Mini Backpack & Ashley Clutch Wallet! Both pieces display so much detail and we are loving it! The brightly colored fabric is sure to make you stand out in any room!

Day 7!

Hang in there we are almost done!

On day 7 of the Faux Leather Tour, we introduced you to Pia from Mrs. Ginger Handmade!

"My name is Pia, and I am the person behind Mrs. Ginger Handmade. I am Spanish and I have sewn since I was little, but it was while I was studying my PhD that I began to seriously sew for a wedding dress house and for the theater. I lived 14 years in Peru and finally arrived in the USA in 2019. Since I was little, I have liked to play with textures, color, fibers, hence I always look for the explosion of color in sight. I go with the faux leather tour: a solid color on the outside but you open the bag and boom! Explode the color of the flowers. I am fascinated by the fact of seeing how from a piece of something (faux leather, cotton, vinyl, etc) something not only beautiful but also practical and useful can come out and make those who see it smile. Mrs. Ginger Handmade worked for two years as a hobby but was officially born as a company in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic. My Instagram page is: @mrs_ginger_handmade"

Pia designed this beautiful tote bag with the Powder Blush Pink Crocodile Faux Leather Sallie Tomato's Poppins Pattern! The pastel color combinations as well as the rich floral design used in this makes it a perfect bag for the Spring season! She described the bag as "The typical bag that fits everything in and that you never get tired of." We could not agree more!

Day 8!

Meet Sarah with SARIDITTY!

"Hello, y’all!  I’m Sarah – the creator, owner, designer, and all things frantic behind the scenes of SARIDITTY.

Officially I am a licensed (and retired?) commercial pilot. I graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Aviation Technology, where I then went on as the chief pilot of an engineering firm in the Midwest for a couple years. Once I married a military man, I was whisked away from my Indiana land of corn and soybeans to start the next chapter in my life. We are now three moves into our marriage, which means I had to figure out a career that worked for a lady-on-the-run! Thank goodness for my geeky affection for algebra & geometry (and calculus…yep, #MathNerd) and a keen eye for design & color.

I am so very thankful that my Gramma and mom taught me to enjoy crafts and handwork from a young age. I learned to crochet around age 4; I played with beadwork and wire art from age 5 or 6; cross-stitch was second nature by the time I was in 2nd grade; and my school notebooks were always filled to the brim with doodles. It’s only fitting I discovered the quilting world – where art meets math, and magic happens!

By chance, I learned I had a knack for free motion quilting. Basing my style of FMQ on the doodles that forever filled my notebooks, I’ve classified my personal FMQ style as Sketchbook Quilting, but you’ll find me quilting up feathers nonstop too! I love the opportunity to quilt for others, so keep that in mind if you’d like a custom touch to your quilt top. Send me a note to arrange your quilting experience!

When I’m not busy designing patterns or quilting, I’ll still be relaxing in my “work mode” and creating hand embroidery sampler patterns. I’ve found so much peace and enjoyment in my slow stitching over the last 2 years, and it’s my pleasure to share needlework patterns with you as well.

I became an officially-licensed surface pattern designer in 2018. And I am now thrilled to be part of the Moda Fabrics family and designing amongst a menagerie of amazing artists. My Moda debut collection, Rainbow Sherbet, ships in August 2023!

Watch out! Another gorgeous piece made with our Crimson Red Crocodile Faux Leather! This bag is stunning and full of intricate details. This color combination with the red and gold make this a stunning combination for all your summer events! Sarah was kind enough to make this and work with us despite the recent passing of her grandfather. We know sewing can be an escape from the hard realities of life and appreciate her hard work. Sending our condolences and love to you & your family, Sarah.

Day 9!

Last, but certainly not least, we have Namrate from Bagstock!

"Hello there! My name is Namrata Shroff, and I am the creative mind behind Bagstock Designs. Based in Pune, India, I am fortunate to share my life with my amazing husband and our son, Edhant (Danny). I am a self-taught bag maker and it was my passion for creating that led me to design my very first sewing pattern - the beloved Everyday Tote - back in 2016. In addition to my love for sewing and pattern designing, I am also an avid photographer and a travel enthusiast."

Namrate created this beautiful Phone Sling Bag using our Black Ostrich Faux Leather as an accent fabric! This fabric lets you add a fun layer of texture to any project to give it that extra flare! We love the contrast between the bright colors of the flowers and the dark textured faux leather!

What an amazing nine days! That wraps up our Faux Leather Tour! We hope this gave you a burst of inspiration and ideas on how you too can use these unique fabrics! Thank you to all of the creators who participated in this! These pieces are absolutely stunning and definitely did our Faux Leather justice in showcasing its versatility and detail! Check out all of their social medias and businesses! We look forward to seeing what YOU do with this collection!
