Every year, the ByAnnie SewPINK Initiative unites the sewing community to raise awareness about breast cancer through creativity and action. This year, I’m excited to contribute with a project that blends style and purpose: the Galaxy Travel Wallet. Sewn in a bold Fuchsia Pebble Faux Leather with contrasting Beige Pebble Faux Leather and finished with Tula Pink Hardware, this chic accessory is both functional and inspiring. This project is a small yet meaningful way to offer support while creating something beautiful and useful.

Materials You’ll Need
For this project, I wanted to combine boldness and elegance. The Fuchsia Pebble Faux Leather serves as a vibrant, empowering nod to the SewPINK theme, while the Beige Pebble Faux Leather balances it with a touch of timeless sophistication. The Tula Pink Hardware adds a playful and stylish finish that truly elevates the piece, showcasing that even practical accessories can be fun and fashionable.
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate the look:
- Galaxy Travel Wallet Pattern by Sallie Tomato
- Fuchsia Pebble Faux Leather (for the exterior)
- Beige Pebble Faux Leather (for the interior)
- Tula Pink Hardware (two 1/2" swivel clasps, two 1/2" d-rings, three 1/2" magnetic snaps, and one Tula Pink handmade label)

Sewing Tips for Faux Leather
Working with faux leather offers many advantages—it’s durable, easy to clean, and adds a touch of luxury to any project. However, it does require a few specific techniques to ensure a flawless finish.
- Needle and Stitch Length: Use a size 80/12 needle and increase your stitch length to around 3mm. This helps prevent perforation of the material, ensuring your wallet is strong and durable.
- Avoid Pinning: Pins leave a permanent hole in faux leather, so opt for sewing clips to hold your pieces together. These are also a great help when sewing through thick layers, such as the interior card pockets.
- Use a Teflon Foot: A Teflon foot will glide over the faux leather easily, preventing sticking and ensuring your stitches are smooth.
- Heat Settings: Be careful when pressing—faux leather doesn’t like heat! If you need to flatten seams, always press from the wrong side, using a pressing cloth and low heat, or simply finger press where possible. The faux leather will melt to your iron if using too high of heat.
- Edge Finishing: For a polished look, try edge coating along the sides of the wallet. This will seal the faux leather and give the wallet a professional finish.
