April Highlights: Fresh Cork, Creative Projects & Spring Events!

As flowers bloom and the days stretch a little longer, April is bringing us a fresh wave of inspiration and sunshine! Whether you're diving into a new project, picking up some sustainable sewing tips, or planning your next big make, we've packed this month with creativity, color, and connection. Here’s everything that’s blooming this season!

New Arrival: Laughing Daffodil Cork Fabric

Our newest cork release is bursting with spring charm! Introducing Laughing Daffodil, a joyful floral print designed by the talented Colleen Annalea. This print features bright, painterly daffodils on a soft, natural background—offering a perfect pop of color for any springtime bag or accessory. We love pairing it with Rustic Zircon, Pearl, or Natural corks for a beautifully coordinated look that feels fresh and polished.

Whether you’re planning to make a cheerful clutch, a sunny wallet, or even a cork planter wrap, this limited-edition cork adds the perfect dose of personality. And because it's a limited run that won’t be restocked, now’s the time to scoop it up and make something one-of-a-kind!

Celebrate Earth Month with Sustainable Cork Projects

April is Earth Month, and what better way to celebrate than by diving into sustainable sewing? Cork fabric is not only beautiful—it's also an eco-conscious alternative to traditional materials. It's harvested from the bark of cork oak trees without harming them, making it a renewable, biodegradable, and durable choice for makers who care about their environmental impact.

To inspire your green creativity, we’ve created a brand-new video tutorial: 10 Quick Projects Using ⅓ Yard of Cork. This is perfect for those small leftover cuts you've been saving or for anyone who wants to try cork without committing to a full yard. From card holders and wristlets to key fobs and mini wallets, each project can be completed in under an hour, making them ideal for gifting, selling at craft fairs, or just using up your stash.

Exclusive Interview with Country Cow Designs

We were thrilled to sit down with Jo from Country Cow Designs this month for a candid, behind-the-scenes interview that’s packed with inspiration. Known for her beautifully structured bags and clear, approachable patterns, Jo has become a favorite among bag makers of all skill levels.

In our chat, she opens up about her creative journey, how she approaches designing patterns, and the importance of functionality in every project. She also shares valuable bag-making tips, like how to get perfectly aligned topstitching and her go-to tools for clean finishes. Whether you’ve made one of Jo’s patterns or are just discovering Country Cow, this interview is a must-watch!

Inside the 2025 Sallie Tomato & Co. Box

Check out what’s inside this year’s Sallie Tomato & Co. Box? We’ve posted our unboxing videos and can’t wait for you to see the goodies! The theme, Future Dusk, inspired a palette that blends deep, dramatic tones with pops of metallic shimmer—think twilight skies, starry sparkle, and a sense of wonder for what’s ahead.

From specially curated hardware, to exclusive faux leathers and coordinating notions, every item was handpicked to reflect the mood and magic of the theme. If you love surprises and curated creativity, these boxes are an absolute treat.

Behind the Scenes with Jess

This month, we carved out a little time for fun, laughter, and some much-needed sunshine! The Sallie Tomato team hit the lanes for a bowling day full of laughs and friendly competition—it was the perfect way to take a break and recharge together. I also had the joy of teaching a few local sewing classes this month—it’s always a treat to connect with fellow makers in person and share what I love! Thanks to everyone who joined my classes!

On the home front, with the arrival of spring, we’ve been enjoying the fresh air by working in the yard, baking sweet treats, and tackling a little spring cleaning... including working on my pile of unfinished sewing projects! Can anyone else relate? I'm currently finishing a Checkerboard Throw Blanket (one of our FREE patterns!) for each of my boys in their favorite colors and a little red bag for myself (since I've been loving pops of red in my wardrobe lately!). Next, I'm going to sew a cork bag to take with me on our trip to Portugal next month (there are still spots left by the way)! Which bag should I make? The Jenny Sling Bag? The Traveler Wallet ? Or the Fifth Avenue Fanny Pack? I need some help deciding! :)We hope you’re finding joy in the little moments this season brings!
Thank you for being a part of our creative community. We can’t wait to see what you make this month. Be sure to share your projects with us on social media using #SallieTomato and #CreateConfidently!
